Liz Connolly trained with BKS Iyengar for 20
years as well as spending considerable time with Silva Mehta.
She was a member of the Board Of Directors of the BKS Iyengar
Yoga Association and was a certified Senior Iyengar Teacher and
assessor at both introductory and intermediate levels as well as
a teacher trainer for Iyengar students since 1980. She was
however, one of the UK's most notorious yet best kept yoga
secrets...acknowledged as a fiercely knowledgeable teacher, but
seldom seen or visited.
In the 1990s, Liz began to study intensively with Shandor Remete
when he started giving courses at her premises in England. She gained
further notoriety as an Iyengar apostate when she began
seriously studying Ashtanga with Graeme Northfield. She
later introduced Ashtanga to Ireland when she brought David
Swenson and others there.
Amongst her unusual accomplishments, Liz has taught in the Maze
Prison in Northern Ireland where she trained political prisoners
to become yoga teachers. Her many influences mean that her take
on both Iyengar and Ashtanga techniques is singular and wide
ranging. While based in Cornwall, she gives teacher training
courses in London and all over Europe. Elizabeth confidently
predicts that she will make any individual's yoga practice
progress and they will leave class feeling they have learned and
achieved something new.
